Chapter Chapter 8 in Innovation and the Future of Rural Development in Europe, 2026, pp 175-201 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Rural areas in Galicia (Northwest of Spain) suffer an intense process of depopulation and ageing in recent decades, reinforced by the emigration of young people. These areas present a growing deagrarianisation and a high population dispersion, which makes it difficult to provide basic services.To define the long-term vision for Galician rural areas we employ a multi-actor approach combined with a Delphi analysis. The Multi-Actor Platform (MAP), operating within the SHERPA project, was composed by 17 members from society, science and policy. A bibliographical and statistical research and a questionnaire to rural actors outside the MAP provided solid inputs and enriched the discussions about the rural futures.
