Abstract: Abstract The fulcrum of analytical psychology is individuation, the lifelong transformation that leads from the limited standpoint of the conscious ego to the encompassing dimension of the Self, a complexio oppositorum that signifies the total field of psychic life across both conscious and unconscious strata. Prior to this movement, the subject is typically enclosed within a personal myth, a habitual narrative threaded by the personal equation through which experience is selectively perceived and retold. As necessary as this myth is for organizing life, it also obscures what differentiates one path from another and restricts contact with the psychic totality that exceeds any single perspective. To illuminate and accompany this transformation, Jung adopted the alchemical Opus—nigredo, albedo, rubedo—as a symbolic map of psychic work in which the subject must encounter and engage decisive archetypal figures—Shadow, Anima/Animus, and the Self—whose tensions and unions reconfigure personality from within.
