Chapter Chapter 3 in Numerical Methods for Grid Equations, 1989, pp 117-170 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we study a method for solving special grid elliptic equations — the cyclic reduction method. This direct method allows us to find the solution to a Dirichlet problem for Poisson’s equation in a rectangle using O(N2 log2 N) arithmetic operations, where N is the number of grid nodes in any direction.
