Abstract: Abstract At BDP our station design process is focused on creating ‘Places For People’. This results in a design process which aims to integrate the following issues: 1. Providing access for all 2. Ensuring clarity of wayfinding and information provision 3. The intelligent use of light (both natural and artificial) 4. Making secure, easily managed spaces 5. Developing sustainable, loose-fit environmental control strategies 6. Creating site responsive design solutions 7. Reflecting the civic role of a rail gateway 8. Respecting heritage constraints 9. Considering how the station can be a destination in its own right 10. Considering permeability and regeneration Many aspects of the design process influence (and are influenced by) the movement and activities of passengers. This presentation/paper therefore covers various themes, but ultimately it presents an explanation of the importance of understanding pedestrian movement and wayfinding to our work.
