A chapter in Political Geometry, 2022, pp 293-302 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This explainer will focus on a statistic—“Moran’s I”—that is so ubiquitously used in geography to measure spatial structure in a dataset that it has become almost interchangeable with the concept of spatial structure in that field. This explainer assumes math-major background in some places, but we hope it is still accessible at a high level for all readers. We begin with a little bit of history.
