Abstract: Abstract Ontologies—as a formal, shared and common understanding of a domain—are developed for knowledge sharing and reuse. However, due to the distributed and dynamic nature of the web, there are many versions and different variations of ontologes. The evolution of the ontology may cause the incompatibilities problem. To solve the incompatibilities issue, an ontology version system is needed. In this paper, we present a flexible approach to build such a system. Our method consists of two tasks. First, we create a mechanism to support multiple ontology versions. Every ontology version contains a version of ontology module. Secondly, we explain how to partition the whole ontology into small modules according to the ontology dependency.
