Abstract:
Abstract A short description is given of ensemble climate model simulations which have been carried out since 2003 by the Dutch climate research community on Teraflop computing facilities. In all these simulations, we were interested in the behavior of the climate system over the period 2000–2100 due to a specified increase in greenhouse gases. The relatively large size of the ensembles has enabled us to better distinguish the forced signal (due to the increase of greenhouse gases) from internal climate variability, look at changes in patterns of climate variability and at changes in the statistics of extreme events.
