Abstract:
Abstract A new method combining classical boundary-layer suction with the recently developed technique of Upstream Flow Deformation is proposed to delay laminar-turbulent transition in three-dimensional boundary-layer flows. By means of direct numerical simulations details of the flow physics are investigated to maintain laminar flow even under strongly changing chordwise flow conditions. Simulations reveal that steady crossflow modes are less amplified than in the case of ideal homogeneous suction at equal suction rate.
