From Abel’s Heritage: Transcendental Objects in Algebraic Geometry and Their Algebraization
Fabrizio Catanese
A chapter in The Legacy of Niels Henrik Abel, 2004, pp 349-394 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mathematics (edited in Japan) is not a book devoted to the history of mathematics, but tries instead to briefly introduce the reader to the current topics of mathematical research. By a not only lexicographical coincidence it starts with “Abel, Niels Henrik” as topic 1.
