Abstract: Zusammanfasung Intellektuell waren die fünf Jahre, die im Frühjahr 1959 begannen, vielleicht die schwierigste und abenteuerlichste Zeit meines Lebens. Im Alter von siebenunddreißig Jahren machte ich mich daran, ein Mathematiker zu werden. Das gelang nur wenigen, wie ich gehört hatte.
