Abstract:
Abstract After briefly describing the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM) recent history, we discuss the science popularization and communication activities developed by the Society from 2005 to 2010. We describe the contacts maintained with the media, the organization of events for the public and for scientists, and the publishing and publicizing of magazines and books. We argue that some of the approaches adopted can result in better public understanding of science role and in larger public support for math education and research.
