A chapter in The Roots of Logistics, 2012, pp 41-54 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Since at least the 19th century and Jomini’s classical discussion the term “logistics” was used to describe a set of tasks and a pragmatic body of experiences and knowledge in the realm of the military. But only in the 20st century, with rapidly expanding uses of science and technology, attempts were made to elevate the field to the level of a science.
