Chapter 16 in Cybernetic Approach to Project Management, 2013, pp 315-336 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Conflicts are immanent to any group striving to reach a common goal. Project manager shall acquire the knowledge of what are the symptoms of emerging conflicts, how and where to do the emergence and how to approach the effective solutions. Gray and Larson main sources of conflicts help to focus the project manager’s attention. Glasl conflicts dynamics helps to identify the conflict solution potential. Verma’s classical, behavioural and interactionists view helps to assess the conflict impact on the organizational performance. Feasible conflict solutions and type strategies are analysed. Recommended cooperation strategy and conflict solution approach using the creative PACTAR (Spanish “to negotiate”) technique with subsequent crisis handling and prevention activities are thoroughly analysed. Further the role of feedback, constructive dispute and negotiations in successful conflict resolution is presented here. Examples of Templates, Checklists and Bibliography close the Chapter. Quick look at the beginning of the Chapter that gives cornerstone assessment of the process is presented here.
