Abstract: Abstract At the beginning of the 20th century, hardly anything was known about Abū Kāmil. By the end of it, he was known to have lived in the second half of the 9th century and to have held an important official position in Egypt. We owe this information to studies made by various German scholars in the first half of the 20th century. We are also indebted to Adel Anbouba, whose considerable knowledge of Arabic bibliographical works led him, independently, to the same conclusions. His study, though, appeared in a short-lived periodical. It thus deserves to be reprinted. A few additions have been made by the editor. (J. Sesiano)
