A chapter in High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering, Munich 2002, 2003, pp 105-112 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Type Ia supernovae have become an indispensable tool for studying the expansion history of the universe, yet our understanding of the explosion mechanism is still incomplete. We describe a generally accepted explosion scenario, sketch the most relevant physics, and report recent advances in multidimensional simulations of Chandrasekhar mass white dwarf explosions.
