Abstract Consider the strictly hyperbolic system of conservation laws (1) $$ {{u}_{t}} + f{{(u)}_{x}} = 0, $$ where u ∈ ℝN, f: ℝN ↦ ℝN smooth. The system is said to be strictly hyperbolic provided that the Jacobian matrix A(u) ≐ Df(u) has N distinct eigenvalues, α1(u)
