Abstract:
Abstract David Eisenbud, the current director of the MSRI, was born in 1947 and got his PhD from the University of Chicago under Saunders MacLane in 1970. He has published work on noncommutative and commutative algebra, knot theory, singularities, and algebraic geometry, and one paper on juggling. On the lighter side, he is an avid amateur musician, specializing in 19th century art songs. He taught for many years at Brandeis University before moving to the University of California at Berkeley and MSRI in 1997.
