Abstract:
Abstract Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) is a promissing concept for modelling turbulent flows. The principle is to solve the three-dimensional, unsteady Navier Stokes equations on a grid which is too coarse to capture all vortical motions. The unresolved part of the flow field, constituted by fine-scale motion, is accounted for by an additional so-called subgrid-scale model term in the equations. This approach allows to reduce the computational cost for the same Reynolds number or to compute the flow at a much higher Reynolds number.
