Abstract: Abstract We present several examples of the use of computer algebra systems as a tool in the development and implementation of finite difference schemes modelling fluid flows. Computer algebra is particularly important for transformations of partial differential equations, posedness and stability analysis. Automatic code generation provides a reliable way to process large implicit linear or non-linear finite difference schemes into Fortran code solving them.
