Abstract:
Abstract A particle method for reactive rarefied gas flows is developed in order to solve the so-called Ludwig Heil equations, a system of generalized Boltzmann equations. They have to be taken into account to describe the re-entry of a space vehicle in the transition regime, intermediate between free molecular and continuum flow. The unknowns of these equations — the differential cross sections for various types of collisions — are modelled and related to measurable macroscopic quantities. This leads to an efficient simulation tool which is applied to calculate the flow inside a pitot pressure probe.
