A chapter in Mathematik Schlüsseltechnologie für die Zukunft, 1997, pp 513-522 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract In this paper we report on the numerical treatment of the controlled cooling of steel profiles in cooling lines. The cooling process is described by a nonlinear heat equation with boundary conditions of the third kind. A (linear) objective functional is given, which is minimized by means of a method of feasible directions. Both the nonlinear and the linearized heat equations are solved by a finite element multigrid method. Some numerical results are presented.
