Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Entwicklung und der Einsatz neuer Materialien hat die menschliche Gesellschaft entscheidend geprägt – nicht umsonst benennen wir die frühen menschlichen Kulturen nach dem Material, das für sie charakteristisch war. Auch heute ist die Entwicklung neuer Materialien eine enorme Herausforderung mit Auswirkungen auf alle Lebensbereiche, von der Gesundheit über Information und Kommunikation, Verkehr, Energieerzeugung und -übertragung bis zum Sport, der häufig Vorreiter beim Einsatz von Hochtechnologiematerialien ist.
