Abstract:
Abstract This essay deals with all aspects of Karl Weierstraß’s membership of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. In particular, we describe the circumstances of his election in 1856, his own proposals for new academy members, his publications in the organs of the Academy, his editions of Jacobi’s and Steiner’s works and the edition of his works (both thanks to financial support of the Academy), the award of the Helmholtz medal, his efforts for reforming the statures of the Academy, and his financial affairs in connection with the Academy. This text is based on archival material that is published for the first time.
