Abstract: Zusammenfassung Im Jahr 1950 endete Hirzebruchs Studentenzeit, und seine Karriere als Mathematiker begann. Nach dem Aufenthalt in Zürich schloss er in großer Eile die Redaktion der Dissertation ab (Über vierdimensionale Riemannsche Flächen mehrdeutiger analytischer Funktionen von zwei komplexen Veränderlichen), so dass er Ende Juli promoviert wurde. Als »fertiger« Mathematiker konnte er im November 1950 eine Assistentenstelle in Erlangen übernehmen.
