A chapter in Die digitale Transformation der Medien, 2022, pp 459-478 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The mobile media ecology has greatly reconfigured online communications, mainly altering space and time dimensions. This new “liquid” media ecology is full of affordances and risks. Academic research has delved into the main areas of tension to be dealt with: the creation of the digital profile, the digital identity, different kinds of applications, software and platforms (with a special focus on social media networks), big data, and the digital path, bearing in mind issues of interface design, data workflows, content and information slides as well as rhythms. Therefore, this study shows how users of mobile media manage their public, private, intimate, and personal spheres in the era of the digital transformation. It is based on results from the EU FEDER project (“Public and Private in Mobile Communications”, 2013–2015). Results showed that users became more aware of these affordances and risks while still showed confusion.
