Zusammenfassung Im Peloponnesischen Krieg gegen Sparta (431–404) erlitt Athen eine empfindliche Niederlage. Um 429 v. Chr. kam es zu einer verheerenden Epidemie, von der man lange Zeit glaubte, es sei die Pest gewesen; neuere Forschungen sprechen jedoch von Typhus.
