Chapter Chapter 5 in The Significance Test Controversy Revisited, 2022, pp 41-54 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The significance test controversy is revisited in the light of Jeffreys’ views on the role of statistical inference in experimental investigations. These views were clearly expressed in the third edition of his Theory of Probability. We will quote and comment the relevant passage. We will consider only the elementary inference about the difference between two means, but our conclusions will be applicable to most of the usual situations encountered in experimental data analysis.
