Chapter 1 in Stresses in glaciers, 2022, pp 3-5 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The reason for the study is a long known mathematical method that is suitable for calculating stresses in glaciers, but which has never been applied in glaciology. The physical mechanisms are outlined. The concept of the investigation is to develop computational procedures that can be carried out with reasonable effort and are based only on reliable assumptions. Therefore, the aim of the investigation is the general solution of both the balance conditions for the forces and torques and the known boundary conditions.
