Abstract: Abstract Theon of Alexandria (Θέων ὁ Ἀλεξανδρεύς) (335–405 AD) was a mathematician and astronomer in Alexandria at a time when the Museion was already destroyed. His lifetime is fixed because he observed the solar eclipse of June 16, 364 and a lunar eclipse in November of the same year in Alexandria, as he reports in his Almagest commentary (Book VI). The Suda states that he lived in Alexandria under Emperor Theodosius I (r. 379–395); furthermore, that he was a member of the Museion.
