Abstract: Abstract We give exponential and polynomial stability results for the wave equation with variable coefficients in a bounded domain of ℝ n , subject to a Dirichlet boundary condition on one part of the boundary and boundary conditions of memory type on the other part of the boundary. Moreover, analogous stability results are given for a system of Maxwell’s equations in heterogeneous media subject to dissipative boundary conditions with memory.
