A chapter in What Mathematics Can Do for You, 2013, pp 7-15 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract When trying to demonstrate the necessity of mathematics in finance, I usually begin by explaining the Black–Scholes model, as an application of stochastic differential equations. But in this case, I would like to change the perspective a little and talk to you about mathematics as a tool for thought, on how effective a tool it can be, in both English and Japanese, and also for people who work in finance.
