A chapter in Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications, 2003, pp 243-253 from Springer

Abstract: Summary In this paper we deal with the finite element approximation to the Maxwell equations. We summarize a short proof which relates the convergence of the discrete scheme to the good approximation of the eigenmodes of the Maxwell system. We present some numerical tests, showing the better performances of edge elements with respect to penalized nodal elements in the presence of singularities. Finally, we recall a modified scheme which is based on nodal elements and is capable to approximate the singularitiers.
