Abstract: Abstract Moore–Penrose pseudoinverses of linear transformations between inner product spaces are defined and their existence and uniqueness are established. In particular, the application of pseudoinverses of matrices to finding best approximations of solutions of systems of linear equations is considered and related to the least-squares method.
