Chapter D18 in Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design, 1987, pp 153-161 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This paper reviews aeroelastic analysis from the earliest days of flight up to the present and anticipates future developments. An overview of the theoretical background is provided, which deals with structural and aerodynamic modelling, model superposition and transformation and the solution of the dynamic response equation. The emphasis is on the techniques used in industry to meet the needs of successive air vehicle designs and the account also includes research and development in progress. Likely future developments occuring in response to changes in flight technology and the ongoing need to produce an optimum design to maximize the economics of flight are also included.
