Abstract:
Summary This paper reports the analysis of a gravity dam founded on a soft subsoil and subjected to loading phases consisting of the construction stages and subsequent fluctuation of the reservoir water level. An elastoplastic constitutive model is employed for the soil, incorporated in the MIXDYN computer program. Examined is the importance of the accumulation of plastic deformation in the soil on the movement of the dam and the stresses in the dam and in the supporting medium.
