Chapter D54 in Numerical Techniques for Engineering Analysis and Design, 1987, pp 485-492 from Springer

Abstract: Summary The sixteen term complete 3rd order Hermitian polynomial initiated by Bogner, Fox and Schmit [3] is used to develop the finite element model for static and classical buckling analyses of layered rectangular plates made of composite materials. The concept of Isoparametric elements with independent rotational and transverse degrees of freedom originally introduced by Ahmad, Irons and Zienkiewicz [1], is extended to develop the finite element models for static and classical buckling analyses of layered axisymmetric shells as well as layered plate/shell. Computer programs for the above models suitable for microcomputer have been developed and some practical problems have been solved and compared with the available results.
