Abstract:
Summary Aspects of a posteriori error analysis are discussed including the need to identify errors caused by roundoff and physical modelling approximations in addition to discretization. A general procedure is demonstrated on a one-dimensional example identifying exactly the error in stress and displacement. The extensions required to apply the procedures in two and three dimensions are then described.
