Chapter 4 in Introduction to Algebra, 1972, pp 113-150 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter we first derive some basic properties of arbitrary rings. Then we study rings with properties which are more or less similar to those of the ring of the integers and consider the arithmetic of such rings, i.e. questions related to divisibility, prime elements etc. Most of the results in this chapter will be used later.
