Abstract: Abstract It is difficult to gather trustworthy knowledge of astronomy in Iran before the reign of Ardashīr I (ad 226–240) and Shāpūr I (241–272) who encouraged the spread of Indian Science in the region. The ninth century Pahlavi (Middle Persian) Dēnkart informs us authoritatively that the two kings had Indian and Greek works translated into Pahlavi and that they were revised under Khusro Anūshirwān (sixth century) (Pingree, 1964–66, p. 119).
