Abstract: Abstract Analysis of variance is a statistical technique used for analysing causes of variation in the data set generated in an experiment. In this chapter, analysis of variance for one-way and two-way classifications has been discussed by means of solved examples. For group means comparisons, post hoc tests such as Tukey’s HSD for equal sample size and Scheffe’s test for unequal samples have been discussed. Sometimes, researcher considers two-way ANOVA as factorial experiment; in reality, it is not. In such experiments, one of the factors is the independent variable which we manipulate to see its effect on the variable of interest, whereas the second factor is a blocking variable whose purpose is to simply reduce the error variance so that even if the slightest difference occurs in the treatment groups, it should be visible. This fact has been explained in detail in this chapter. In Chap. 9, it has been explained that the factorial experiment is the one where the combination of treatments is administered on the subjects.
