Chapter Chapter 9 in Data Analysis with SPSS for Survey-based Research, 2021, pp 161-217 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract When you put in a super premium petrol RON 98 for your car, you anticipate you will reach your destination faster and perhaps going further. You can use a regression analysis to check if this is case. You can also use the regression to check how strong the fuel type influences your travel time relative to other factors. This is because the journey is also affected by road and traffic conditions as well as your driving style. In this chapter, we walk you through a simple regression and make our way up to more sophisticated hierarchical multiple regression that you can use to investigate an influence of additional variables after controlling for other variables. It is like looking at the effect of the fuel type in your car on the distance travelled after controlling for the traffic and road conditions. We also include a quantile regression which is very handy if you need to look at the effects of predictors at different sections (i.e., quartile) of your sample. It is like looking at the distance travelled in a single tank but at different driving speed.
