Chapter Chapter 3 in The Classical Liberal Case for Israel, 2021, pp 51-130 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is devoted to refuting the main myths against Israel, which constitute the narrative used by Anti-Zionists, especially BDS, to oppose this country’s existence. Hence, we deal with: 3.1 The Land Issue Analysis of the charge of massive expropriation by Israel, and why it is erroneous. 3.2 The “New Historians” A critical analysis of the movement of Israeli historians who developed the works on the basis of which anti-Zionists accuse Israel of ethnic cleansing and massive expropriation of Palestinian Arabs. High profile names in this regard include Benny Morris and Ilan Pappé. 3.3 The Facts We present a more accurate historical record that refutes the claims made by the historians mentioned in the previous section. 3.4 The “Expulsion” Plan Analysis of the charge of “expulsion” of Arabs in 1948 from Israel, and why it is inaccurate. 3.5 The “Massacres” Refutation of the charge of “massacres” allegedly committed by Israel during the War of Independence in 1948–9. 3.6 The Historical Controversies Analysis of the debates between historians on the origin of Israel, and why the anti-Israeli “New Historians” are wrong. 3.7 A Final Comment on the “New Historians” Conclusion of the “New Historians” subject. 3.8 The Ethnic Cleansing of Jews from Arab Countries We highlight the ethnic cleansing and massive expulsion of Jews from Arab countries during and after the War of Independence in 1948–9. All too often this sad episode of history gets swept under the rug.
