Chapter Chapter 2 in Rural Poverty, Growth, and Inequality in China, 2022, pp 25-53 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Poverty has long been defined and measured using income, consumption, or other monetary measures. In view of the current poverty lines, developing countries or backward countries tend to use absolute poverty lines, while developed countries tend to use relative poverty lines. The former focuses on meeting basic needs, while the latter goes beyond basic needs and focuses more on the relative exclusion and inequality that residents may encounter.
