Chapter Chapter 7 in Adam Smith and Yan Fu: Western Economics in Chinese Perspective, 2022, pp 69-75 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Reading Yan Fu’s translation of WN (1902) more than a century later, what kind of reflections can one make? Two issues may be considered. (1) Intellectually speaking, how the intelligentsia reacted to the books that Yan Fu have translated in general (Table 1 in Chap. 1) and WN in particular? (2) In terms of policy, the ideas of minimum government, laissez-faire, free trade as advocated by Smith, were they suitable/useful in the 1900s?
