Abstract:
Abstract Corporate governance is a broad discipline that has several subdisciplines which include, but are not limited to operational governance, financial governance, HR governance, risk governance, security governance, risk governance, IT governance, and data governance. This chapter discusses the corporate governance approach and the different subdiscplines of corporate governance. This chapter also introduces the readers to the concepts of data and data classification. The evolution of data governance, the lack of standardization of data governance definition, and the difference between IT governance and data governance are also discussed. A separate section explores how data governance ties to other corporate governance subdisciplines.
