A chapter in Green Manufacturing Technologies in Industry 5.0, 2025, pp 69-104 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Eco-design has emerged as a central theme in contemporary production, solving serious environmental issues using sustainable product creation. This chapter explores the planned integration of the principles of eco-design throughout the life cycle of a product through phases like market analysis, conceptualization, component selection, and validation of designs. A specific emphasis is put on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), supplying objective measures with which to estimate and improve ecological performance. The dialogue focuses on the utilization of recyclable and renewable materials, modular design to simplify repair, and design methods in favor of longevity and minimization of waste. Implementation includes sustainable manufacturing planning, ethical purchasing, and consumer engagement through explicit communication and education on environmental advantages. Post-launch evaluation, stakeholder input, and adaptive redesign mechanisms ensure continuous improvement. Examples from the furniture and fashion industries demonstrate how these principles can be applied by companies to achieve success. Essentially, eco-design is a strategic bridge between innovation, regulatory compliance, and long-term environmental responsibility, providing both ecological and economic benefits in an increasingly sustainability-focused market.
