Chapter Chapter 6 in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, 2026, pp 475-499 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Compared with the conventional software design process, the Eight Disciplines Problem Solving Report (8D report) represents a structured and systematic approach to problem solving, making it particularly well-suited for intelligent manufacturing systems. Widely adopted in quality management within the manufacturing sector, the 8D report serves as a globally recognized standard tool for addressing quality issues and enhancing problem-solving capabilities. The primary objective of the 8D problem-solving methodology is to identify recurring problems, implement corrective actions, and eliminate root causes, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of products and processes. In this chapter, we will give illustrative examples of the 8D report to elucidate the process of designing projects.
