Chapter Chapter 1 in Youth and Employment, 2025, pp 1-23 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Chapter 1 introduces the book and its contents. It begins with background that explains how youth unemployment has become a major obstacle to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of “employment for all.” It then presents the theoretical linkages between youth and employment through three perspectives: the two-sector job search theory, a holistic taxonomy of knowledge and skill development for youth, and a two-layer model of platform capitalism. The chapter concludes by outlining the book’s overall structure and clarifying how the subsequent empirical and case-study chapters build toward the theoretical contributions and policy implications proposed in this study on youth unemployment.
