Chapter Chapter 1 in Advancing IT Interoperability and Trade Facilitation in Southeast Asia, 2026, pp 1-29 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In 2019, an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) based exporter faced a two-week delay due to documentation mismatches across three national customs systems. The disruption cost the company over $500,000 in lost revenue and penalties. Such inefficiencies underscore the need for the ASEAN Single Window (ASW), which seeks to eliminate these outdated processes through digital transformation and integration across ASEAN trade systems. The ASW initiative is more than an incremental upgrade to existing customs procedures; it is a bold leap toward a future where trade processes are seamlessly integrated, efficient, and digitally driven.
