A chapter in Governance, Quality Assurance and Future Direction of Higher Education in Vietnam, 2026, pp 285-304 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Higher education governance plays a critical role in shaping the quality and effectiveness of higher education systems in any country, including Vietnam. Effective governance ensures that higher education institutions are adequately funded, have appropriate policies and regulations, and operate in a transparent and accountable manner (Goedegebuure and Hayden, Higher Education Research & Development 26:1–11, 2007). This chapter provides the implications of governance, autonomy, and quality assurance on higher education institutions (HEIs) in Vietnam to adapt to changing societal needs, foster innovation, and cope with challenges posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution and achieve academic excellence. The chapter also offers policy recommendations with a focus on partnership (SDG17) to enhance autonomy, transparency, and innovation in governance, improving quality assurance mechanisms, and promoting sustainable and inclusive education approaches that can contribute to the overall quality and effectiveness of higher education in Vietnam.
